I am Antique....

Journal Entry: Tue Oct 20, 2009, 3:29 PM
Wow, what a day today. So my internet has been acting rancid lately and it has been upgraded to a level 3 problem. Which I am glad it’s getting fixed, I just want it fixed NOW! Today I had to take my cat to the vet to get her fixed which for me is a big ordeal since I don’t like my cats being in any kind of pain and I was having panic attacks the whole way there. I just worry about my little furry lovees. Being that this place was an hour away I decided to stay in the area since it was going to be like 6 hours. Which by the time I got back would be 5 hours and then an hour to get back so technically 4 hours. So I stopped by this little antique store that was in the area. It was sooo wonderful.
I love going to antique stores, I find some of my best ideas and even some of my materials come from antique stores. This one was particularly nice inside. I decided to have lunch at their little tea room, which the tea of the day was a Peach tea that was AMAZING. I asked the server what is was and she said it was Walter Bay Peach tea. I am buying some! I ended up having the Quiche Sampler Platter which was divine, these people know how to cook a quiche. That coupled with the nice table set up and the live pianist it was a classy mix of culture and style. I really enjoyed myself. The shopping area was amazing too the items where fantastic and very well done. They had one section set up like a little old time street, it was nifty. I find going to antique stores to be a very surreal experience. Simply because you put your hands on things that at one time someone else owned and for that one moment in their life it was new and exciting and that item meant something to them. Also, I own a ton of antiques, most my house is filled with them, 80% of my furniture is antique. Most my kitchenware is vintage. Walking into my house is sort of like walking into your grandmother’s house except…I am 24. Lol
I am weird in that way…I love steampunk, gothic stuff, computers, games, the latest fashions, overly dramatic makeup and the newest high tech gadgets…however! I also hate to wear jackets, I wear shawls. I love doilies and have a million. I like potpourri, tea cozies and all I ever drink is tea. I am big into nostalgic items and collect miniature foods and tea cups…yes you heard me…I collect teacups. Yup, I am weird.
I really recommend you guys check that shop out, I find that the stuff they have in those places can really spur the imagination and it provide a unique type of inspiration…and this shop has a lot of the GOOD antiques…(So does the Montgomery Street Antique mall…I recommend going there to, I am buying myself an 18th century wooden desk chair from England from there)
This is the address to the one I went to today:
LoneStar Antiques
5605 N. Denton Hwy
Fort Worth, TX 76148

So this gave me a super good idea…I am going to hold a contest based upon this love of antiques of mine. The prizes will be a 1 year sub, a gift certificate and probably more stuff. I will take any donations anyone wants to give for prizes. The contest will be for ANY artistic medium, pictures, drawings, paintings. Whatever tickles your fancy. Here is the content…
One day when I went to this antique store, I found a Victorian parasol. It was made of black silk with beautiful little frills all around it. It had the old worn wooden handle and it still opened. Most of the fabric was tattered and some of it a little torn but I had to own it! So this got me thinking back to who owned this before me…close your eyes. Imagine being or see this lady who went to a shop or had this beautiful parasol made, for that one moment that parasol meant the world to her. She held its beauty in her hands and for that second it made her happy. It was new, crafted with silk and a gorgeously carved wooden handle.
I want and image inspired by that moment…that feeling, the old being new. I want to see what that content inspires in you. What do you see in the image in your mind?
I will be posting more finite details in my next journal but just simmer on that thought for a bit. Note me if you have any questions or donations or ideas.

I am neither simple nor complex...I live life by standard rules and always believe that war is averted by cake! I am a med school student if you can believe that and I share a profound love of infectious ailments and genetic research. I do tons of differnt types of crafts and art so it is hard to say I do only one thing. I believe nothing in life is worth getting bent out of shape for because there really is a silver lining on every cloud.

Please check out my hubby's site too....not much there yet but there will be....
